With a problem-solving mindset, Yewande Akinola contributes meaningful insights on key issues, using a conversational approach to communicate complex ideas. She connects with her audience through compelling stories, making her presentations impactful and accessible.
As a chartered engineer with extensive experience in designing, constructing, and innovating buildings and systems in the built environment, she has worked on projects across the UK, Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia.
She has received numerous accolades, including the UK Young Woman Engineer of the Year, a “35 Under 35” by Management Today, and the Exceptional Achiever Award from the Association for BAME Engineers and the Association of Consultancy and Engineering (ACE).
The Financial Times and Inclusive Boards have also recognised her as one of the top 100 women in engineering. As a visiting professor at the University of Westminster, she is passionate about combining education and industry experience. Yewande runs various programs for young people and serves on the governing body of a UK university.
Additionally, she is a Trustee at the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and a Fellow of the IET. She is dedicated to STEM communication and has hosted engineering programmes for television. In the 2020 New Year Honours list, Yewande was awarded an MBE for her contributions to engineering innovation and diversity in STEM.
Recently, the Royal Academy of Engineering named her an honorary fellow and appointed her an Innovate UK Ambassador for Clean Growth and Infrastructure. She also plays a key role in supporting Young People in Innovation and Women in Innovation Programs.
