Katie Prescott’s career all started thanks to ‘dragon’ Peter Jones.
As a new graduate, Katie started working at a London start-up magazine, which included an interview with the investor and a job offer from him. She worked as his executive assistant for three years, working alongside some of his prior investments, including Levi Roots’ Reggae Reggae sauce, and her interest in business news was ignited. After studying for a Master’s in journalism, she joined the BBC as a junior researcher.
Starting her career in journalism, she worked her way up and became the business presenter for the Today programme, where she gained prominence as a key business correspondent. Her reporting spanned significant global and national issues, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the European debt crisis, sustainability challenges, climate change, and energy prices. Additionally, she provided insights on critical economic matters such as inflation, the furlough scheme, unemployment figures, and government budgets.
Katie’s expertise extended beyond the UK, as she presented and reported from various locations worldwide, including Tanzania, Rwanda, Northern Ireland, Russia, China, and the USA. While in New York, she worked as part of the BBC’s New York Bureau, further broadening her international experience. She also presented for Radio 4’s Today programme, where she earned recognition for her clear communication and in-depth analysis of economic and business issues, making her a trusted face and voice in broadcast journalism.

In May 2022, Katie Prescott became the Technology Business Editor for The Times, where she also writes a weekly column for the paper’s business section. She covers a wide range of topics related to media, technology, and telecoms, delivering key stories to her audience. Her writing includes articles on social media, train strikes, haulage, climate change, carbon emissions, mortgages, and the impacts of lockdown.
She has contributed to Shout Communications’ small business talks and spoken at events like Live-Retail Week and London Tech Week alongside prominent figures like MP Rishi Sunak.
