Dermot Murnaghan co-presented BBC Breakfast for five years with Natasha Kaplinsky before joining Sky News in 2007. He currently hosts their weekday breakfast show.

Dermot also hosted Murnaghan on Sky News from 2011 to 2016 and has been the presenter of Sky News Tonight since 2016, covering major events like the UK elections and Brexit.   A familiar face on British TV, Dermot is a popular moderator and host for entertainment and political events.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dermot Murnaghan has reported on significant global events, from war zones to general elections, and conducted high-profile interviews with figures like David Cameron and Gordon Brown. In 1997, he was among the first journalists to report on the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Before joining ITN (now ITV), Dermot was a regular Channel 4 News presenter covering significant events such as the Gulf War.  He’s hosted over 100 episodes of The Big Story, reported for Channel 4’s Business Programme, and anchored Channel 4 Daily. Later, he co-presented ITV’s Sports Awards, the ITV Lunchtime News, and News at Ten.

As one of the lead anchors on Sky News, Dermot Murnaghan fronted Murnaghan on Sunday, a weekly show where he interviewed some of the most prominent political figures.

As well as covering the news, Dermot also hosted the BBC quiz show Eggheads between 2003 and 2014.

Awards and Recognition
In 2000, the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) honoured Dermot with the Newscaster of the Year Award. He also won the Royal Television Society’s Interviewer of the Year award in 1998 for his groundbreaking interview with Peter Mandelson, which led to Mandelson’s resignation from the Cabinet.
