Before joining the BBC in 2016, Nick Watt held senior roles at The Guardian, including Chief Political Correspondent and European Editor based in Brussels. He began his career at The Times, covering politics in Westminster and on the ground in Belfast as Ireland Correspondent.
Nick has reported on seven UK general elections, two Scottish referendums, and two UK-wide referendums. In addition to his reporting, he has become increasingly in demand as a moderator and chair of high-profile political and public policy events, both in the UK and internationally. His ability to distil complex developments into accessible, engaging conversation has earned him widespread praise. His approach is noted for being both witty and authoritative, striking the right tone for serious discussions while keeping audiences engaged.
In his broadcast role, Nick Watt has become a regular and trusted voice across BBC TV and radio, including Today, PM, The World at One, and The Westminster Hour. His energetic yet measured style is ideal for facilitating conversations in politically charged environments. He effectively manages panel dynamics, draws out key insights, and ensures balanced participation.
Nick’s moderating is enriched by his deep understanding of UK and EU politics and his broader experience covering international affairs, including the wars in Kosovo and Iraq.
