David Garrido’s career began with a significant breakthrough—winning the BBC Talent campaign, which secured him a contract with BBC Sport. After completing his university finals, he joined the BBC in London, contributing to various national radio networks before becoming Newsbeat’s sports reporter on Radio 1, a role he held for nearly eight years. During this time, he covered major global sporting events such as the European Championship, two World Cups, two Champions League finals, three Ashes series, Wimbledon Championships, and Formula 1 Grand Prix.

David also interviewed some of the biggest names in sports, including David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Andy Murray, and Serena Williams. In addition to his work on Radio 1, David presented and reported for flagship BBC programs such as Match of the Day, Football Focus, and Final Score, as well as delivering sports updates on the BBC News Channel and BBC World News. His commentary portfolio includes tennis coverage for Wimbledon, the 2006 Australian Open, and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

In 2011, David transitioned to Sky Sports News, quickly becoming a key presenting team member. Following Sky’s acquisition of the rights in 2012, he was prominently featured in Sky’s Formula 1 broadcasts, hosting events in Melbourne, Monaco, and Silverstone and presenting on the dedicated F1 channel. He also became a central figure in Sky Sports’ “Deadline Day” coverage, a highly anticipated event for football fans tracking last-minute transfer deals.

David often teams up with fellow Sky Sports presenter Laura Woods and made his documentary debut in 2014, chronicling the journey of the Gibraltar national football team as they joined UEFA and began their first Euro 2016 qualification campaign. From 2016 to 2018, he focused on Spanish football, presenting Sky’s live La Liga coverage, a passion project that reflected his deep enthusiasm for the sport.
